US needed the sugar and is bitter that Cuba gave the preference to the world. Instead of relying on one market, Cuba diversified is portfolio like a true capitalist. Any country trying to diversify w/o US approval gets financially destroyed or bombed.

US need the sugar to control the mass and Cuba did not help.

EDIT: I think the embargo is affecting Cuba somewhat, but not completely. You won't see the embargo lifted until Castro (Raul, that is--not Fidel) improves relations with the US.

Sure the embargo has an effect on Cuba, but, in a free world the consumer has the right to shop where they want.

Cuba has every right to say nasty things about the United States and the United States has the right not to buy or sell to Cuba.

Communists and Liberal Democrats think people should be forced to do what the Commies and Dems think is "right".

Of course the embargo is meant to hurt, otherwise it would be pointless.  We don't want to hurt the people, just change the government. Its embarrassing/dangerous to us to have a communist state who aligns itself with our enemies only 90 miles from our coast.  Remember the missile crisis? Russia parked nukes right at our back door, and we would have gone to war to make sure they were removed.

The Cuban government has now aligned itself with Chavez, another sworn enemy.

I for one am truly sorry that the Cuban people hurt, but don't see where we can be normalize relations until your government changes.

Castro and your type of government (communism) is the reason your people suffer.  Opening trade between Cuba and the US will IN NO WAY improve or change the suffering your people have been going through under the dictatorship of Castro and his communist government.  It has been proven time and again that the very small percentage of trade that would even happen with Cuba would not effect what Castro has put you through for the last half century.
