America’s Quantum Racing back in business on Day 3 of the 2011 Audi TP52 World Championships
America’s Quantum Racing crew showed some excellent sailing techniques on Day 3 of 2011 Audi TP52 World Championships at Porto Cervo in Sardinia, to hit the top spot with 10 points. The defending world champions made a tremendous run in the only race of
the day and crossed the finish line first to secure top spot on the podium.
Just like Day 2, there was no breeze on Costa Smeralda waters so the race organisers at Yacht Club Costa Smeralda decided to shift the race from Sardinia’s Porto Cervo to the northern area in Secca dei Tre Monti, which gave a race-able breeze to commence
the only race of the day.
However, the American team sprang back into the game well and were able to win the race convincingly ahead of Great Britain’s Gladiator and Spain’s Paramount Park Murcia. Despite their victory, the American team is still in competition with British and Spanish
teams, as they have the same score and can make things tough for them. Meanwhile, Quantum Racing project manager, Ed Reynolds, is happy with the crew’s come back and hopes they will hold on to the lead.
While speaking to media at the conclusion of Day 3, Reynolds said, “Our goal was to get through these light airs days leading the regatta, three of us are tied and we win the tie breaker right now, so we are pretty much where we want to be right now. Hopefully
the averages kind of work out for us. That is our focus.”
