America’s Quantum Racing in commanding lead of 2012 52 Super Series – Sailing News
America’s Quantum Racing had a slow start in the 2012 52 Super Series and finished the first two days of the regatta on third podium whereas the Italian Audi Azzurra Sailing Team and Sweden’s Ran occupied the first two podium places at the conclusion of
Day 2.
However, the tables turned on the third day of the event when the American team cruised into two race victories to hit the leading podium finish of the event with 14 points. So far no race has been discarded from the total points which might make shifts
in the standings.
The wind conditions on the racing area were perfect for compete racing schedule as the breeze gusted around the race course from 12 to 13 knots. The TP52 fleet had complete liberty to set perfect sailing on the Barcelona waters.
Quantum Racing began the regatta proceedings with some lower finishes as they clinched three third podium places in the first three races which nudged them down on the third position.
Italy’s Audi Azzurra Sailing Team performed impressively on the opening days of the event and clinched two bullets to claim the leading spot in the overall leader-board. Meanwhile, the Swedish TP52 took a couple of second finishes to occupy the second position.
The US boat sprang back into the event with some classy sailing display in the fourth and fifth race to move up in the standings. They claimed a bullet and a second place to move one place up in the resultboard at second.
Two more bullets in the third day proceedings were enough for the American team to cruise into the leading position of the fleet with 14 points.
Overall fleet standings at the conclusion of seven races are given below:

3. Rán (SWE) 2, 2, 1, 3, 1, 5, 2 = 16 Points
4. Gladiator (GBR) 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 4, 4 = 29 Points
5. Audi Sailing Team powered by ALL4ONE (GER/FRA) DNC, DNC, DNC, 5, 4, 3, 5 = 35 Points
