‘America’s Toughest Stage Race’ on the way as Tour of Utah starts on August 9, 2011
Tour of Utah is starting from August 9 to 14 and there will be 120 riders from 16 teams to compete in this year’s tournament that will last for six days.
Main contender of the race will be Francisco Mancebo, the Spanish cyclist who has won domestic stage races and is also the current winner of USA Cycling National Racing. He has won the stages in the various races including, Sea Otter Classic, Tour of Gila,
Redlands Classic and Cascade Cycling Classic and Redlands Classic. Other strong contenders of the race will be Oscar Sevilla, Tejay Van Garderen and Rory Sutherland while Chris Horner is not included in the tour as he faced an injury in the Tour de France.
Some key players from the Tour de France are participating in the Tour of Utah this year including defending champion Levi Leipheimer who is also the winner of the Tour de Suisse. US time trial champion David Zabriskie and Christian Vande are also in the
Tour of Utah this year.
Sprinters in this year’s tour will be Elia Viviani and Iker Camano Ortuzar who both are holding four wins this year and to accompany them in the flat stages is the winner of five races this season, Robert Forster.
President of Utah Cycling Partnership Steve Miller who operates the Tour of Utah since 2007 said, “It is unbelievable field of international athletes this year, from Grand Tour veterans to National Racing Calendar stars here in the US.”
Steve Miller who also owns the Tour of Utah stated that the competition this year will be a treat to watch and spectators will really enjoy it. Miller said, “The cream of the crop of Pro Continental and Continental teams will be at the Tour of Utah, providing
an opportunity for them to go head to head with the Pro Team Squads.”
Tour of Utah is one of the biggest cycling events in America and is highly awaited by the players and spectators as it involves some of the biggest names competing. The three pro teams participating in this year’s Tour are HTC-Highroad, Team RadioShack and
BMC Racing Team.
