America’s Zach Railey wins Finn class title at 2012 Rolex Miami OCR – Sailing news
America’s Zach Railey put up a scintillating sailing show on Florida waters and managed to secure the top podium place in the overall Finn class at the conclusion of 2012 Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta (OCR). The American clinched 15 points in 11 races
including a medal and discard race to win the tournament.
The start of the 2012 season has been outstanding for the 2008 Olympic Silver medallist as his domination in the Finn class will play an important role in upcoming contests especially the 2012 London Olympics, where he will face the world’s top Finn class
challengers. The champ is looking forward to make his presence felt at the Olympic Games.
The Rolex Miami OCR, second event of the 2012 ISAF Sailing World Cup series has been an outstanding regatta for the champ because it provided him with some stunning competitions. The final day of Finn class races featured ideal wind conditions for the fleet
to complete the scheduled races including a medal race.
Railey was impressive on Miami waters and with a second place in the medal race he managed to hit the first podium spot to win the regatta. In his post regatta interview, Railey said that the regatta was a great source of training and racing for him.
During his regatta campaign, Railey cruised into six bullets and three second podium finishes along with a couple of thirds to earn 15 points at the conclusion of the regatta and clinch the crown. With an 18-point difference, two-time world champion, Denmark’s
Jonas Hogh-Christensen managed to finish on the second position with 33 points.
