Question

can someone please tell me about the education system. What exams and courses can you take after the age of 16. what are they called. what entry requirements do you have to have to go to university? etc

Graduation requirements vary from state to state. You would need to talk to school counselor in the state where you move. Graduation requirements get you out of high school.

In the states we attempt to educate all so you are not separated into different levels like in Europe. You choose your courses based on your ability.

In High School (9th through 12th year) you are usually required to take the four core subjects (Math, Science, English, Social Studies) each year. The level you take is based on ability and sometimes on what you choose. You are also likely to take a language if you want an advanced diploma. High School is four years (roughly age 14-18).

In the fall of your Junior year (about your age), you take the ACT and or SAT tests which will determine your college chances. College admission is a combination of grades and ACT/SAT scores. You are also likely to have to take the TOEFL test to show your skill level with the English language. Requirements for University depend on the degree of selectivity.

There is a good book called Fiske Guide to colleges which has a good range of colleges in it. Looking through that will give you some basic information on American colleges.

You have to take the SATs to get into a university.

You can also take the SAT's II and ACT.

Depends on which state your are planning on staying. Generally, if you are in high school (secondary school), you have to take a test in order to graduate. If you are entering college, you either have to the SAT/ACT or the TOEFL, depending on your situation.
