Americas oil crisis solution?!?!?!! please comment!!!!!?

i need to know if my thinking is correct, please comment!!!

so heres the deal, we can not replace crude oil with solar, wind or nuclear because we can not run our cars on nuclear, wind or solar.

my car runs on regular gas and i cant put a solar plate or wind mill on top of it!. it just would not work!

so why is are they saying that if we invest in wind, solar and nuclear then oil prices will go down!?!?!? it makes no sense. i can surely put a solar panel on my roof top, but its not gonna lower my car gas bill..... it may lower the heating bill, but not the gas bill.

so i think there is no link between the exiting alternative energy and crude, which means that it does not matter how much we invest in wind, solar, nuclear or geothermal, it will still not affect the gas prices.

am i correct?!?!!?!!?

  1. Who said your car wouldn't run by solar power. There are cars run by hydro as well as electricity power. But, anyway, that is not the point, the point is the pollution....

That relates to the problem of market failure. you should be glad that you are not living in B.C Canada. They put a carbon tax on the gas. It is called a Pougivan tax or something. Basically it shifts the demand curve to its socially optimal level. There you go, be glad

  2. SDD nailed the answer and should get your "best answer" award.  If we generate more electricity from wind and solar, we need to use less petroleum or natural gas than we do now for generation.  This makes more available for making gasoline.

Increased supply with stable demand makes for reduced prices.  It's economics 101.

  3. Not totally.   You are correct that those sources of power aren't readily useable by an automobile, but what they can do is reduce the total demand for oil.  As demand goes down, generally so does the price of oil.

The best alternative for cars is a hydrogen based fuel cell - same thing we use to power spacecraft, or use compressed natural gas (the US has a lot of it).

  4. Hey, guys, I have an idea!...Tomorrow lets all start using wind power, solar power, fuel cell power and drive electric cars and stop using oil.  Is that a good idea or what?

Fact is there are NO.....NO viable alternatives....Drill here, Drill now and do not be fools. Oil is our growth commodity and we need it.

Right now any story about alternative energy sources begins:  Once Upon a time....."

  5. Electricity can be produced from any number of fuels -- one of which is oil. If all the electricity generated by oil powered plants were replaced by some other fuel, then the demand for oil is reduced by that amount.

  6. You are right.  Once they do come up with an alternative fuel, only the rich people will be able to afford it.  The rest of us will have no choice but to continue to use regular gas.  I don't know if there are enough rich people to help with the crisis this way.

  7. Supply and Demand.  Nuclear, wind and solar will reduce the oil needed and will bring down the price because so great a demand will not be there any longer.

We need to quit immediately putting money into the hands of people who hate us.  The only way to do this is become independent of their oil.  We are dependent upon their oil at this very moment.  That is bad.

Something should have been done in 1973 when we faced an oil shortage, but we failed to realize who we were dealing with back then and many refuse to believe today.  America has an enemy that means to bring us down.

  8. What most people don't realize is that less than 2.5% of the electricity that we use in the US comes from oil. Oil is used almost exclusively for transportation, home heating oil, and industrial production (Plastics and other petroleum byproducts). It is estimated that even if we increased our use of alternative fuels to their maximum potential, it would only decrease our use of oil by about 1%. Alternative fuels are a great feel good story, but they won't reduce our dependence on petroleum. No matter what Obama says.

  9. You ARE correct. Star for you!!!!!
