Amesbury, Wiltshire, england - Can anyone recommend a good pub/hotel for lunch?

Many years ago I enjoyed ham sandwiches in a pub and the ham was very thick. Almost opposite was a hotel that did superb lunches. Both establishments also kept a decent ale.

Yes, I just hope my spelling of the place is right Conigre farm hotel in Melksham, the food and service is superbe and the accomodation excellent and it`s not too far fromAmesbury.
