Ami Matsuo acquires Girls 200m freestyle gold: Day five – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Ami Matsuo of Carlile acquired gold medal of the Girls 200m freestyle in the age category of 15 Year Olds on fifth day of the 2012 Australian Age Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane on Friday, April 13.
Matsuo, who qualified into the playoff as sixth best finisher, elevated her efforts in the final round and cemented her place on the victory stand for gold medal.
Her gruelling form remained prominently ahead of her following swimmer and she won gold medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.07 seconds. She was followed by Remy Fairweather of Kawana Waters, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 01.08 seconds.
Fairweather was followed by Brittany McEvoy of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who completed her sprint in third best place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 02.34 seconds.
Afterwards, Mack Horton captured gold medal of the 200m freestyle in Boys 15 Year Olds category. Horton stayed considerably ahead of his following swimmer and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 53.30 seconds.
The champion was followed by Michael Mincham of New Zealand, who earned silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 55.18 seconds. Mincham was trailed by Hinds-Sydenham of SOPAC, who settled on the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 56.31 seconds.
Following that, City of Perth’s Brianna Throssell seized gold medal of the 100m butterfly in Girls 16 Year Olds category by posting a time of 59.72 seconds. Throssell was followed by Ellen O’Rourke of Cherrybrook Carl, who ended second with the timing of 1 minute and 00.84 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Chris Licciardi of Melbourne Vicentre, who ended her swim in third place by producing an effort of 1 minute and 01.58 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all listed events in Boys and Girls corner while the arena acknowledged notable efforts of all contestants in their respective events.
