Ami Matsuo captures Girls 100m freestyle gold: Day two – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Ami Matsuo captured gold medal of the Girl’s 100m freestyle in the age group of 15 Year Olds on second day of the 2012 Australian Age Championships on Tuesday, April 10 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
Matsuo stayed dominant over her competitors for gold medal from the start of the event. With her fascinating efforts in the playoff, she not only stunned the aquatic crowd but also occupied gold medal of the 100m event.
Her impeccable effort placed her significantly ahead of her strongest competitor as she touched the wall with the timing of 54.88 seconds for gold medal.
Her effort was trailed by Sophie Taylor, who remained nearly two seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 56.97 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the event was seized by Brittany McEvoy, who remained 0.20 seconds slower from her former finisher and emerged on the finishing wall for bronze medal by posting a time of 57.17 seconds.
McEvoy was trailed by Tayla Brunt, who stayed nearly three strokes behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by posting a time of 57.42 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed laudable efforts of Melbourne Vicentre’s Mack Horton in the Boys 15 Year Olds category. Horton overwhelmed his competitors by completing his swim in a time of 51.34 seconds.
Horton was followed by Edward Marks of MLC Marlins, who stayed nearly one second slower and posted a time of 52.28 seconds for silver medal.
The silver medallist was trailed by Cameron Jones of St Peters Western Swim Club, who stayed 0.01 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 52.29 seconds to earn bronze medal of the discipline.
Jones was followed by Angus Hannan of Cherrybrook Carl, who was 0.29 seconds behind his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 52.58 seconds for fourth position.
In addition, the podium finishers collected awards and accolades for their wonderful efforts at the medal ceremony of the championship while the championship will complete on April 14 after the completion of all events.
