Ami Matsuo dominates Women’s 200m freestyle final: Day three – 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games
Ami Matsuo of Australia dominated the final of Women’s 200m butterfly to capture the gold medal of the event on the concluding day of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, held in Isle of Man.
Matsuo claimed the gold medal of the 200m discipline, by submitting a top fastest time of 1 minute and 57.92 seconds. The 15-year-old Australian earned the respect of the crowd by capturing the title of the event and for sustaining her fastest qualification
spot in the four-lap freestyle event.
She was trailed by Sycerika McMahon of Northern England, who remained only 1.54 seconds slower than the gold medallist and posted a time of 1 minute and 59.46 seconds. The third spot on the podium was secured by Sophie Smith of England, who remained just
0.09 seconds slower from overwhelming the effort of silver medallist and reached the podium for the bronze medal, by reporting in a time of 1 minute and 59.55 seconds.
In the meantime, Smith edged out her closest competitor, Leah Neale of Australia, who missed the bronze medallist with a difference of only 0.01 seconds and settled on the finishing wall as the fourth best player, with a timing of 1minute and 59.56 seconds.
The fifth position of the swim was secured by Sian Morgan of Scotland, who was only 0.11 seconds slower than her preceding swimmer and concluded her swim after she touched the finishing wall with a timing of 1 minute and 59.67 seconds.
Subsequently, the sixth spot of the race was secured by Kirstin McKinley of Scotland, who clocked a time of 2 minutes and 02.62 seconds. Michelle Weber of South Africa remained 0.06 seconds slower than McKinley and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and
02.68 seconds. Weber was followed by Emily Bashforth of Jersey, who earned eighth position, with a timing of 2 minutes and 03.36 seconds.
Furthermore, the session concluded after the completion of all scheduled swimming events, while the podium finishers received their medals and accolades for their effort in the respective meet.
