Amica Marathon dominated by Menzies and Gosselin
Nick Menzies finally ended up winning the 2010 Amica Marathon after emphatically dominating his rivals on the track in Newport. Hailing from Boston, Menzies made it to the finishing line in just two hours, forty-two minutes, and twenty-three seconds. He
covered a distance of 26.2 miles during his race and ended up winning his first marathon race ever.
While talking to the media personnel, Menzies said that it was a great race and he enjoyed it thoroughly. The commendable runner, who managed his ultimate lead throughout the run, further said that it was the most beautiful race he had ever participated
in. While thanking the sponsors and volunteers he said that they were the real heroes of the race.
Menzies basically belongs to New Zealand and is currently pursuing his graduate degree at Harvard University. After winning the race, the athlete was widely commended for maintaining a huge lead from the runner-up Bill Zucconi, who hails from Madison. The
time taken by Zucconi for crossing the finishing line was two hours, fifty minutes and seven seconds.
Among the females, it was Michelle Gosselin from Providence, who stood top leaving her rivals behind with a considerable margin. For Gosselin, the winning time was three hours, five minutes and eight seconds.
While talking to the media personnel she said that the main motive for her to win the race was to win and to set her personal best record. Gosselin, a medical student at Brown University, went on to say that she managed to pursue both of her goals. “It was
a remarkably beautiful course and an amazing race for me” she added.
In the half marathon of United Healthcare, it was Roland Lavalle, who took the crown. Lavallee, who happens to be a biology teacher and a cross country coach for Mount St. Charles Academy, dominated the race right from the beginning. He managed to finish
with his victory in mere one hour, six minutes and forty seconds.
While sharing his views with the reporters, Lavallee said that he came there with the purpose to see what he could do on the track. He further said he had steep goals before him, which he eventually could not meet that day. However, he said that he was happy
with his victory.
Commenting upon the race the runner further said that he knew that the strong wind would be a real factor to be considered in the race. Moreover, the track was also challenging, but the support from the spectators was fantastic.
The women’s winner for the UnitedHealthcare half marathon was Elizabeth Foster. Elizabeth, who also happened to be the winner of 2009 Amica Marathon, finished the distance of 13.1 miles in just one hour, twenty-three minutes and forty seconds and bagged
the title for year 2010 as well.
While talking to the media the remarkable runner said that she was injured and was healing quite slowly. She said that before participating in a full marathon she wanted to feel comfortable racing at the half marathon. She further said that she liked the
distance as it turned out to be a great course and beautiful day.
Mark Kruger, Jay Kruger and Rudy Pauls, who happened to be the former biggest losing contestants, also ensured their participation in the race. After participating in the Amica Marathon, the Kruger brothers finally completed the quest of back to back to
marathons in the consecutive weeks.
For the Kruger brothers, running in a back-to-back marathon, was more like an emotional challenge. As it was revealed that Jay Kruger’s daughter was born with a rare genetic disorder, which is known as, Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome.
The Kruger brothers decided to participate in the back-to-back marathons with the motive to raise money for the young girl. By participating in the Amica Marathon, they managed to succeed in their goal.
While sharing his views with the reporters Mark Kruger said that two years ago he was 300 pounds, now, after running two marathons in a week, he was feeling much better. He further added that the Amica Marathon track was quite beautiful and it was a great
day having her there on the track.
