Amico Mio outshines Dubawi King to win HH Heir Apparent Trophy at Qatar
Amico Mio stood firm against Dubawi King’s late challenge, and clinched a cherished victory in the H.H Heir Apparent Trophy at Doha, Qatar on Thursday. The 1 mile 3 furlong long Group 1 local competition attracted 16 quality contestants from all across
the globe.
Soon after the beginning, Amico Mio established his dominance that he retained during most part of the race. The six-year-old was striding towards an easy win, when Dubawi King stepped up, and tried to spoil his party. B. Ghazali’s trainee gave the
leader a real tough time, and challenged his supremacy at the stretch.
On the other hand, even though the Y. Bentaher-trained stretched his advantage to four lengths on other rivals, Dubawi King was running nearly neck to neck with David Badel’s colt.
The five-year-old gave an all out effort to overtake the leader, but Amico Mio managed to hold his lead. Consequently, Dubawi King remained three quarters of a length adrift of Best Of The Bests’ son.
It was a fascinating affair though, as all runners put in their best to make an impact. However, the prestigious prize eventually went to Amico Mio, who has recorded seven wins so far on flat turf.
Jockey, Badel was delighted with his horse’s superb show, and expressed complete satisfaction at Amico Mio’s winning performance.
"I won a Group 3 on him in November over a mile but he has won over this trip before and stays well so I was happy to send him for home when the chance arrived. He has been beaten in his last races when giving away weight in competitive handicaps but
was meeting them all on level weights and has bounced back to his very best," he said.
Amico Mio ran after a gap of more than two months, but he was quick as ever. On November 17, he was excellent in terms of speed and stamina. In the 1 mile Barzan Cup, the colt outclassed the likes of Honest Prospector and Blog to take a convincing
triumph.
Since Amico Mio is in great rhythm at the moment, his connections are hopeful of good performances in the coming days.
