Amie’s Dini could have a rematch with On Fire Baby in the Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park
The 3-year-old filly, Amie’s Dini, has never finished worse than second in her 4 race career, both as a juvenile and sophomore, as the filly has turned in some game performances to keep her connections wanting for more at the bigger stages in female races
this year.
Trained by Ronald E. Moquett for owners Lou Sutterfield and Mike D. Walker, Amie’s Dini is exiting a game second place finish to, On Fire Baby, in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes at about 1 1/16 miles at Oaklawn Park’s dirt course on 10 March, 2012, as On Fire
Baby downed her and Colonial Empress in third, while topped the distance in 1 minute and 43.64 seconds.
The daughter of Bandini, out of mare Run Kate Run by Cherokee Run, Amie’s Dini is pointed toward the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on Oaklawn Park’s dirt course on 11 April, 2012, as the race is exclusive for 3-year-old fillies.
Amie’s Dini turned in her first work after her runner up finish in the Honeybee Stakes in preparation for the Fantasy Stakes as she clocked half a mile in 49 3/5 seconds under jockey Jon Court.
“She’s a happy girl right now,” said Moquett. “This was just to let her know she’s going in the right direction.”
Amie’s Dini could be on a collision course to yet another race against On Fire Baby in the Grade 2, $300,000 Fantasy Stakes. The fellow 3-year-old filly could also be pointed toward the same race.
Trainer Ronald Moquett has been impressed with hoe Amie’s Dini has been charging down the stretch, and come out of the winter brand new after her win in the Martha Washington Stakes at 1 mile at Oaklawn Park. She gave On Fire Baby a run for her money with
her late charge down the stretch, but it wasn’t enough to win the race.
“She was going so easily and I thought we were going slower, but she just has so much talent, and there’s no sense getting in a wrestling match out there,” said Court. “I felt bad coming back until I spoke to Ron and he told me everything was perfect. She
was relaxed, ears pricked and nice and easy.”
