Amir Farid, a striking forward from Project 2013 squad excited on selection in national squad
Amir Farid Ahmad Puzi, Project 2013 squad’s young forward, is excitedly surprised on the invitation to join the Malaysian national men’s hockey team as a replacement of national forward Mohamed Rashid Baharom who has been left out from the national training
squad.
Farid is the second player after mid-fielder, Mohamed Fitri Saari who has been invited by Tai Beng Hai, the coach of the national men’s team, to join the team which is in the training process.
The Perak-based forward, Amir Farid told that he never anticipated the invitation to join the senior team.
“Rashid’s decision to pull out from the squad is a blessing in disguise for me. If he did not withdraw, I don’t think I would have got the chance to be included,” Amir Farid pleasantly stated over his selection in the team as he is going to fulfil his dreams.
Amir Farid, the 20-year-old forward, who represented Malaysia in the Four–Nation Under-16 tournament held in Germany in 2007, also described that his dream is to represent his country in the 2016 Olympics which will be conducted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Amir, who joined the national players in training yesterday, said that he did not expect to represent Malaysia in senior–level tournaments this year because there are many good forwards in the squad at present.
“Training with the national players will be a good learning curve for me to further sharpen my scoring skills. I believe it will take me at least one year before I can represent the national senior team in tournaments,” Amir further explained regarding his
training with the national squad that will help him to polish his skills.
Twenty five players are in the training process under the supervision of the coach, Tai Beng Hai, who will then select the 18 players for the upcoming Asian Champions Trophy, which will held in Ordos, China from September 3 to 11, after analyzing their performance
during the test match series against Japan which is going to be started at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today on August 7.
