Amir Khan: All fighters should be tested before and after a fight – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA welterweight champion Amir Khan has insisted to make drug testing a necessity, before and after fights. Khan’s comments came in as a retaliation of Peterson’s failed drug test results. Khan lost his titles to Peterson in December. However,
after learning that Peterson was juiced up in the December bout, Khan seems pretty upset.
Khan has already filed a request with the International Boxing Federation to return his titles considering that Peterson had banned substance in his body while he fought. The rematch between both the fighters has been cancelled solely due to this reason
and Khan is now more furious than ever on Peterson.
In his recent interview, Khan spoke about the seriousness of this condition. According to Amir Khan, “All fighters should be tested before and after a fight. It will make the sport cleaner and that's what we need. The way he kept coming forward after he
was put down twice in the first round, the way he was recovering, I knew this was not the same Lamont Peterson I had been watching in videos, this guy was totally different. It was like fighting two people in the ring. I was hurting him and putting him down
and he was still coming forward.”
Khan further said that he has fought with fighters like Marcos Maidana who were great punchers and fitter than Peterson, yet he was able to put them down. He added that after fighting Peterson, he now knows what difference performance enhancing drugs can
bring in.
Khan expressed his dismay over the cancelled fight saying that he had trained hard and he wanted to win his titles back. He added that deep down Peterson knows he has done wrong and he deserves punishment.
Peterson has already apologised for the situation saying that he did not do it intentionally. However, Khan says he needs more than an apology. According to Khan, his life was at risk against Peterson and that one punch could have changed his life.
For now, Khan is waiting for the commission to decide Peterson’s fate and whether the titles will be returned to him or not.
