Amir Khan: Ariza did not ask me to leave the camp – Boxing News
British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has revealed that he did not permit strength and training coach Alex Ariza to leave the training camp in Baguio City. According to Khan, the camp that was set for Filipino WBO Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and himself,
was left by Ariza without giving any prior notice. Khan further said that the issue had disturbed him, as he was just two weeks away from his grand fight against Lamont Peterson for the IBF and WBA super lightweight titles.
He further said, “Alex left my camp in the middle. Alex said that Manny said it was okay to leave, but I didn’t. And I was his number two fighter. I spoke with Manny and Amir about Julio... and got their okay to leave. My new strength coach is down to earth.
He doesn't want his name mentioned.”
Khan is currently working with a new strength and conditioning coach. When asked about it, Khan revealed that his new coach is good at his work and he does not wish to reveal his identity for now.
Not only Khan, other members of the crew such as Hall of Famer promoter Freddie Roach and Top Rank’s promoter Bob Arum are upset with Ariza as well. In a recent interview, Freddie Roach revealed that he has suggested Manny Pacquiao to hire a new conditioning
coach, as Alex Ariza is not reliable. However, Roach did say that Ariza is good at his job, but he is not responsible, due to which at times fighters suffer.
However, Roach also said that it is difficult for the Filipino fighter to leave Ariza, as both of them have been working together since the very beginning. According to Roach, Pacquiao likes Ariza and he likes working with him so for now that is how it is
going to be.
Khan previously had mentioned that he will be firing Alex Ariza as his strength and conditioning coach, and now he has already done that. It should be noted here that Ariza has been threatened by Bob Arum of legal action if he tries to engage in contract
with any fighter being promoted by Top Rank.
