Amir Khan: Camp is going really well – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan spoke to his fans through his website. Khan, who is scheduled to face Danny Garcia on July 14, said out loud that he is having a good time at his camp and everything in going as planned. He further
revealed that his new strength and conditioning coach Ruben Tabares is doing a great job.
Khan’s statement read, “Camp is going really well. Ruben Tabares is doing a great job getting me ready for this fight and some of the new concepts and ideas he’s brought in for this camp are working really well. He’s a top conditioner as he proved with David
Haye and it’s really good working with him. We’ve been working a lot on power for this fight and I’ve been doing some weightlifting drills with Ruben but have still maintained my natural speed – that’s been very important. A lot of the work I’ve done in previous
camps such as running and swimming are still very much part of our programme and I usually do this in the early morning before heading to the Wildcard in the afternoon.”
It should be noted here that Khan’s previous strength and conditioning coach was Alex Ariza. However, Khan ended up things with Ariza when the latter left the camp at Baguio City and went to Los Angeles to train Julio Chavez jr. Khan, Manny Pacquiao and
Freddie Roach were present in Baguio City. Ariza notified the press that he had taken permission from Pacquiao to leave but did not notify Khan and Roach. On this, Roach recommended Pacquiao to end things with Ariza but the Filipino did not.
Pacquiao did not listen to Roach but it seems like Khan was the one who took the advice. Khan immediately fired Ariza as his strength and conditioning coach and hired Ruben Tabares, who has previously worked with David Haye.
For now, according to Khan, he is all ready to face Danny Garcia on July 14. If Khan wins this match, his next possible bout might be with Floyd Mayweather or Timothy Bradley, by the end of this year.
