Amir Khan: Garcia is going to be a big test for me – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan exchanged heated words with his upcoming opponent’s father Angel Garcia. Khan is scheduled to face Danny Garcia on July 14. A press conference was held yesterday to promote the event yesterday, in which
Angel Garcia disrespected Khan. However, the British-Pakistani boxer did not leave any stone unturned to counter Angel’s comments.
Angel came up saying that Khan is an overrated fighter and that his son will beat him. He even said that Peterson had whipped Khan like an ‘octopus’ but Khan, instead of accepting his defeat, blamed the judges for being unjust. According to Angel, Khan will
face his career’s most brutal defeat at the hands of Danny.
On the other hand, Khan countered Angel’s comments saying, “Danny's father does a lot of talking, but at the end of the day he's not the one who's going to be in the ring. When I beat your son am I still going to be overrated? We will see what happens.”
While both, Khan and Angel, were busy throwing verbal shots at each other, Danny Garcia kept calm. Later when asked, Danny said, “Khan's a great fighter, I'm a great fighter. When you put two great fighters together you get an awesome show. I'm ready to
defend my title.”
Khan appreciated Danny Garcia’s capabilities and achievements saying that he had a great win against Erik Morales and that he is good. Khan further said that he is well aware of the fact that Danny Garcia is a tough fighter and that this will be a big test
for him (Khan).
The press conference ended with Khan and Danny posing for pictures together. While Angel Garcia made it a point to add the much needed aggression to the show, Danny Garcia did not make any cynical comments towards Khan. Angel even went on saying that Danny
whipped Erik Morales and now it is Khan’s turn.
Danny Garcia will defend his WBC Light Welterweight Champion against Khan. If Khan is able to get his titles back through the IBF, then those will be the on the line too.
