Amir Khan: I always perform at my best when my fans are rooting me on – Boxing News
Following the rematch cancellation against Lamont Peterson, former unified IBF and WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan spoke to his fans about the mishap. According to Khan, he was shocked on the May 19 rematch’s cancellation, as he had prepared hard
for the big day. Khan said that he had trained for almost eight weeks and he was ready to give his best in the ring.
Addressing his fans, Khan’s message read, “No one was more shocked and upset by the cancellation of next week’s fight than me. I had been training hard for almost eight weeks and was ready to put on a dazzling performance and win my belts back. I know many
of you purchased tickets for the fight and had planned to make the trip to Las Vegas next weekend. For any inconvenience or hardship this cancellation has caused, I am truly sorry."
He further added that his team is working hard to schedule his next fight. According to Khan, his next fight would be somewhere during early summer in the United States. He even pledged his fans to support him and love him the same way they did this time
since they know he does everything for his fans and he always puts up a good show so that everyone can enjoy. Lastly, Khan thanked his fans for their support and love.
For now, there is no confirmation on Khan’s upcoming bout. In addition, if Peterson is stripped off his titles following his drug tests result, Khan might get his titles back or he might have to face an opponent to win the ‘vacant’ titles.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said earlier this week that they are trying to find a suitable opponent for Khan for a May 30 fight. He even said that they are still waiting for the Nevada State Athletic Commission to give its final decision on
Peterson’s titles.
Khan, who lost his titles to Peterson in December last year, is in absolute shock right now. In his previous interview, Khan went the extra mile and called Peterson a cheat who ‘stole’ his titles back in the day. According to Khan, Peterson does not deserve
to be the champion anymore.
