Amir Khan: I am determined to win back my belts and I am ready to jump into the ring today – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan believes he will knockout Lamont Peterson in their rematch on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Khan, who currently stands with 26 wins, 2 losses and 18 knockouts, said he does not want to leave
the decision in the hands of the judges, therefore he will try to knockout Peterson right away.
Khan iterated, “I’m determined to win back my belts and I am ready to jump into the ring today. This fight will be different than the last one, and I’m aiming to produce the stoppage this time around. I’m really focused for this fight and I am not looking
beyond Peterson and May 19. This camp has been one of my most secluded and private to date. I’ve just got my head down and trained hard and have not done the amount of media work I usually do during my camps. Sparring for this fight has been excellent, and
I’m taking on a lot of bigger guys who are similar to Peterson in order to prepare me for this fight.”
While Khan seems confident of the fact that he will knock out Peterson, the latter thinks otherwise. Lamont Peterson, in his recent interview, said that he knows now what Amir Khan is capable of in the ring and he will practice accordingly. Peterson also
said that his titles means more than anything to him and that he will die in the ring but not give up.
Both the fighters will clash on May 19 to settle scores once and for all. Peterson won the titles from Khan in December last year through a controversial decision. Khan immediately filed a petition with IBF to revoke the decision but IBF instead ordered
an immediate rematch. Khan is currently training with Filipino pride Manny Pacquiao in Baguio City. In his previous interview, Khan said that practicing alongside Pacquiao is a motivation in its own and that he is confident he will learn a lot from the Filipino
champion.
If Khan is able to beat Peterson, he will get back the titles lost. If he loses, he will lose his last chance of becoming the unified champion once again.
