Amir Khan: I expect a tough fight against Garcia – Boxing News
Former unified WBA and IBF super lightweight champion Amir Khan believes Garcia will prove to be his one of the toughest opponents of his career. Khan will take on Garcia on July 14, after his rematch against Lamont Peterson was cancelled. In his recent
interview, Khan spoke of his expectations from Garcia on the big day.
The British-Pakistani pugilist said, “We expect another tough fight, I've had some great wins in Las Vegas, beaten Maidana, beaten Zab Judah for ibf, so make this the third one against Danny Garcia. Danny Garcia brings a lot to the table really, he unbeaten,
he has the WBC title, and I think when a fighters unbeaten he has a lot of confidence, and I'm sure he does not want to taste to defeat, so at the end of the day we are going to train hard, cause I have tasted defeat before and I don't want to taste defeat
again.”
Khan was then asked if against Garcia would be last fight at this weight. Khan answered positive to the question, saying that after Garcia he will move up in weight and fight bigger fighters out there. Khan, who previously said he wants to fight Mayweather,
again came up saying that fighting Floyd Mayweather jr. is his dream as a boxer. According to Khan, every fighter wants to fight the best fighter out there and for him Mayweather is that best fighter.
For now, Khan believes his encounter with Garcia will be a tough one. Khan has previously spoken of Garcia, calling him a tough fighter. Yesterday, the former titlist revealed his training updates to his fans. According to Khan’s statement, his training
is going good, as planned, and he is doing a lot of drills in order to work on his strength and power.
Throughout his statements, one thing is sure, which is that Khan is not taking Garcia lightly as he did with Peterson. Khan knows Garcia is one of the most dangerous young fighters out there. For Khan, this is a career test. If he loses against Garcia, his
credibility will go down the rails.
