Amir Khan: I offered my gym in Bolton to the Pakistan boxers – Boxing News
British Pakistani boxer, Amir Khan has offered his assistance to emerging boxers from his ancestors’ land so that they can prepare better for the 2016 Olympics. Khan, who is currently trying his level best to regain his WBA and IBF super lightweight titles,
thinks the sport is dying in Pakistan and he wants to take the responsibility of giving it a boost.
According to Khan, it was disappointing to see Pakistan not being able to qualify for even a single position in 2012 Olympics. Khan expressed his disappointment saying, “It's very disappointing that nobody qualified for the mega event. We have great talent
in Pakistan but I think we need to invest in improved facilities and coaching. Keeping that in mind, I'm available if Pakistan boxing needs any help. I offered my gym in Bolton to the Pakistan boxers ahead of their qualifiers too. This offer will always be
open to them.”
Khan also appreciated Waseem’s fighting skills, saying he can be a good fighter. Waseem who hails from Quetta, Pakistan, is a born fighter who needs proper training according to Khan. “He can be a good professional but he needs the right coach behind him.
Amateur boxing is completely different from professional boxing. He has my support all the way,” Khan said.
Khan also said that he would make a visit to Pakistan during the month of Ramadan (a holy month of the Muslim calendar). Khan iterated, “I will probably visit Pakistan after Ramazan now. The main thing will be to meet my fans because they very rarely get
to see me as I am so far away.”
On the cancellation of his rematch against Lamont Peterson, Khan expressed his disappointment saying he was preparing hard for the fight and he wanted to knock Peterson out once and for all.
Khan’s rematch with Lamont Peterson was cancelled after Peterson’s failed drug test. The current IBF and WBA super lightweight champion was tested in March by VADA and now finally the results showed him positive for having a banned substance. Since Peterson
was juiced up, the match was cancelled between him and Khan.
