Amir Khan: I think I was too brave after the first knock down – Boxing News
British-Pakistani fighter Amir Khan has finally admitted what his trainer has been saying from day one. Khan, who was knocked out by Danny Garcia in the fourth round, initially claimed he was mentally and physically fit to fight a few more rounds.
Nevertheless, after watching the tape over and over again, Khan knows the truth. Now, the Bolton proud has admitted the fact that his emotions took over him and he did things he should not have after Garcia’s vicious blow to the neck.
“I think I was too brave after the first knock down. Watching it back now I think 'why was I not holding onto him?' I was fighting back at times when I didn't have to fight back. I showed too much heart in that fight. When I got caught with the first shot
you could see my legs were totally gone and I didn't recover from that first knock down. Maybe it was instinct and I should have taken a step back,” said Khan who lost his WBA light welterweight title to Garcia.
He added, “It was a brilliant left hook and we all know Danny is a big puncher. But up until then my style was brilliant, using my jab. He just timed it so well. It was more a fluke shot really, hit and hope. Everything was going so well - but that's boxing.
One punch changes a fight.”
Khan’s defeat at the hands of Garcia disappointed his fans and fellow fighters. It was his second consecutive defeat at the hands of a mediocre fighter.
Garcia was the underdog for the fight, yet he ensured a strong victory over Khan. Khan lost his title and the chance to unify three world titles. He is right now as devastated as his fans all around the globe. The Bolton proud wants to make amendments to
training regime to make sure he does not commit such blunders in the future.
For now, Khan wants to rest during the holy month of Ramadan. The former champion has promised a strong return to his fans but he is unsure of whom he will face next.
