Amir Khan: I wanted to fight Timothy Bradley but he refused and lost his WBC title – Boxing news
The current International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association unified Light Heavyweight Champion of the world Amir Khan has spoken on the American pugilist Timothy Bradley who has recently been stripped off his World Boxing Organisation World
Light Welterweight Championship belt.
The 24-year-old Bolton belter, Khan, who recently claimed the IBF title after knocking out Zab ‘Super’ Judah in the fifth round on Jul 23, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, wanted to unify the division by taking on Bradley in December
2011.
However, the Desert Storm Bradley refused Khan’s offer and therefore the World Boxing Council stripped off the American’s WBO light welterweight title on July 28, 2011.
Khan said, “I wanted to fight [Timothy] Bradley for the undisputed title but he turned it down so the WBC stripped him.”
Khan then revealed some other combatants who can be his potential opponents in his final fight before he moves on to the 147lbs category.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “[Erik] Morales is fighting for that title in September so if he wins Morales could be an option. The IBF title I've just won, the mandatory for that is Lamont Petersen so maybe that could be a possibility.”
In the end, Amir ‘King’ Khan, who has won 26 of his 27 fights including 18 by the way of a knockout, claimed he wants to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He said for that purpose, he is eyeing a mega showdown with the undefeated American
legend and the five-division world champion, Floyd Mayweather, who is also the current WBC Emeritus World Super Welterweight Champion.
“My aim is to move up the pound-for-pound rankings and to one day be pound-for-pound champion,” he said. “The Mayweather fight is something I'm looking at for the future and it would be huge for me. It would drive me on.”
Let’s see if Khan gets a mega clash with Mayweather next year as this fight will certainly be a sell out.
