Amir Khan: I will beat Garcia and prove my mettle – Boxing News
British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan believes it is his time to prove his mettle to the world. Khan, who was highly disappointed with Lamont Peterson’s failed drug test which cancelled their rematch, now believes he will beat Danny Garcia with style to prove
his confidence and fighting skills to the naysayers. To a certain extent, Khan feels that most people deem as a fighter who is done for good after he lost to Peterson. However, Khan feels that he had beaten Peterson but since Peterson was juiced up, he could
not do much about it.
In his recent interview, the former IBF and WBA super lightweight champion said, “I’ll win the fight in style and shut all the mouths of those people who doubted me, because I put on a great performance against Lamont Peterson…I believe I won it.”
Khan is currently scheduled to fight Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. It should be noted here that Khan would fight Garcia just because Lamont Peterson failed the drug test. If that would not have happened, Khan
was up for a rematch against Peterson on May 19.
Khan currently stands with 26 wins, 2 losses and 18 knockouts, whereas Garcia stands with 23 wins, 0 losses and 14 knockouts. Garcia is an unbeaten fighter who is dangerous and is amongst the tallest pugilists today. With his height and reach advantage,
he can be quite dangerous for Khan.
For now, Khan is confident that he can beat Garcia. In his previous interview, the former champion expressed his dismay over Peterson’s failed drug tests, saying, “All fighters should be tested before and after a fight. It will make the sport cleaner and
that's what we need. The way he kept coming forward after he was put down twice in the first round, the way he was recovering, I knew this was not the same Lamont Peterson I had been watching in videos, this guy was totally different. It was like fighting
two people in the ring. I was hurting him and putting him down and he was still coming forward.”
