Amir Khan: Lamont Peterson did not want to fight me again – Boxing News
British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan spoke to media reporters while he was at the Baguiao’s Shape up Boxing Gym. Khan was present there to train for his rematch against Lamont Peterson on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. While expressing his views regarding
the rematch, Khan said that Lamont Peterson did not want to fight him again and he tried his level best to skip the rematch or get it staged in his hometown.
In his words, “He did not want to fight me again. He was forcing Golden Boy Promotions to stage the fight in his backyard because he knew the judges were friendlier there.”
Khan, who lost his unified IBF and WBA titles to Peterson in December last year, is training with Hall of Famer coach and the Filipino pride Manny Pacquiao to take down Peterson. Khan is making sure that he does not miss out on anything that can give Peterson
an edge over him. According to Khan, Roach is on his way to the town and once the trainer is there, both of them will start their training sessions. Manny will pitch in to train for his fight on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas against unbeaten American
fighter Timothy Bradley.
When asked as to why he prefers training with Pacquiao and why not alone, Khan iterated, “I have a lot of respect for Manny Pacquiao and the things he has accomplished. I hope to accomplish some of those things too before I retire in a few years. I plan
to retire before I turn 30. I want to be able to enjoy life after boxing.”
It should be noted here that Khan has repeatedly praised Manny Pacquiao for his skills as a fighter. In some of his previous interviews, Khan even said that he wants to train with Pacquiao so that he can be like him.
Khan will go head to head with Lamont Peterson on May 19 in order to claim his lost titles back. Their first match ended in a controversial decision due to which the IBF ordered an immediate rematch.
