Amir Khan: My hefty training will pay off and Danny’s jabbering will only spice it up – Boxing News
Amir Khan, the world number three light welterweight, in a recent media interaction commented that his 16-week training will definitely pay off, adding that he understands the Garcia camp will do their regular jabbering but this will just stoke the fire
for July 14, 2012 clash.
This time Khan will enter the ring in an altogether revamped form. Amir’s latest training camp might probably be the toughest and the longest of the Bolton lad’s career but as per his trainer, Freddie Roach and conditioning coach, Ruben Tabares, all that
training has substantially aided Khan.
Both trainers are confident that their lad has improved and now possesses more speed along with increased power. Khan also during a media interaction admitted that his experience with Ruben was a valuable one, adding that Ruben has totally changed his mindset
regarding fitness and conditioning.
During a recent written communication, Khan shared his thoughts about the fight week and how he plans to face things slowly with sensibility. When asked as to what he thinks about Garcia and especially the strenuously lengthy training camp, Khan stated,
“I know Garcia is going to be up for it, but I really believe I have his number. The work we’ve done over the last 16 weeks is going to payoff in this fight.”
Amir, who currently has 26 wins out of a total 28 bouts, is coming off a controversial loss to Lamont Peterson. It is this reason why even Freddie Roach has emphasised Khan to collect a knockout win so as to completely weed out any kind of controversy or
ill-judgement by the bout-judges.
Khan further added that he has not forgotten even for a split second all that rubbish that was thrown by the Garcia camp in the past few days.
Amir stated, “I know Garcia and his camp are going to say a lot of things during the week but they’re just going to be stoking the fire for fight night. I’ve not forgotten what’s been said and I’ll be using that energy in the right way.”
The former IBF and WBA world super light welterweight champion commented that the bout is of utmost importance to him as he has always desired to add the WBC title in his closet.
Amir remarked, “This is a really important fight for me and one that I’m not overlooking. I’ve always wanted to add the WBC belt to my collection and to have it on the line with my old WBA belt makes this fight even more special.”
Khan and Garcia Junior will meet at the Mandalay Bay Resorts & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
