Amir Khan: People still say I am the champion – Boxing News
In their press conference yesterday, Thursday, Amir Khan had a lot to say about his stance against Lamont Peterson who defeated him in December last year and walked away with Khan’s IBF and WBA super lightweight titles. While most fans thought both the fighters
would be more aggressive, surprisingly Khan was a bit relaxed and so was Peterson.
The press conference was held as part of the fight’s promotional campaign, giving both fighters the chance to express their views about the other. A lot of analysts and former fighters have criticised Khan’s attitude towards Peterson, calling it ‘a cry baby
attitude’. However, Khan’s coach, Freddie Roach thinks that Khan is going in the right direction. Roach told the media, “I like the attitude. He has been training for a month already in England. Physically I think Lamont took more punishment last time. That's
why I think we will have an easier time."
Similarly, while referring to his defeat against Peterson, Khan iterated, “People still say I'm the champ. At no time has he said he won the first fight. It's all about how you come back from these fights and I always come back stronger. There aren't that
many British world champions out there and I'm going to be one again. I'm going to be ready for everything he brings to the table.”
On the other hand, Peterson remained calm and he spoke only about his fight. He said, “Whether it's coming inside and throwing hooks or standing outside and throwing straight shots, I'm going to work on his body.”
Khan also said that he believes he had won the first fight and that he wants his titles back and this is the best opportunity for him to capitalize on. He further added that right now there are not a lot of British champions in the world and that he plans
to get his titles back to make his nation proud. Lastly, he added that he won the last fight and Peterson had taken more beating, however the judges came up with a controversial decision that was not good enough for Khan to expect.
