Amir Khan: Peterson has let all of the boxing fans down – Boxing News
Former unified IBF and WBA welterweight champion Amir Khan believes Lamont Peterson has let all boxing fans down by being involved in unethical practices. Khan, who was preparing hard for his rematch against Peterson, is now disheartened over the fact that
Peterson used banned drugs to beat him.
In his recent interview with ESPN, Khan said, “He's a fake, and I'd tell him that to his face. Lamont Peterson is a fake and a fraud who cheated his way through. Now he will always be remembered as a cheater, just like Antonio Margarito [who was caught trying
to fight with loaded hand wraps]. We used to have a lot of respect for Peterson, but now I think he's let all of the boxing fans around the world down for what he's done.”
Ever since news of Peterson’s test being positive has sprung, Khan has been lashing the champion. Khan said that he and his camp actually respected Peterson for his achievements, but now they think of him as a cheat. Khan even said that Peterson was the
person who advised them to go for random drug testing and so they did. However, he added, the results have shocked him and now he will do whatever Floyd Mayweather does, which is to force his opponents to get random drug testing done.
Khan said that boxing is a sport and an art and not a killing match. According to Khan, boxers go out there to put up a good show within the boundaries of the sport and not to prove they are the best. Khan said boxing is a toe-to-toe battle in which people
do get hurt but that does not mean they start using drugs to grab the victory.
For now, Khan will be scheduled to fight another opponent probably in June or July. According to Golden Boy Promotions’ CEO Richard Schaefer, Khan will fight either in June or July. No opponent or date of the fight has been scheduled yet but the British-Pakistani
boxer wants to go head to head in the ring soon. He has prepared hard and he does not want it to go to waste.
