Amir Khan: Rematch against Peterson will define my career – Boxing News
British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has claimed his rematch against Peterson to be his career’s ‘make or break match’. Khan, former unified WBA (Super) & IBF Light Welterweight Champion, will be taking on the current WBA and IBF light welterweight champion
Lamont Peterson on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.
In his recent interview to BBC Sport, Khan spoke about his defeat to Peterson in December last year that cost him his titles. He said, “Everyone knows I was treated unfairly, that's why this rematch has happened. All I want is a fair fight.” He sounded sure-footed
when he said, “You're going to totally see a different Amir Khan this next fight.”
Not just Khan, even his opponent Peterson is training hard for the fight. Keeping in mind Peterson’s recent comments, one can easily reckon that he now knows what to expect from Khan. When asked about Peterson and his ability to fight, Khan said, “He's going
to be different, he's going to be stronger, he's going to be more slick. I'm going to go into this fight and knock Lamont Peterson out this time. I want these titles to come back to Britain and I'm going to give it 100%.”
On the other hand, Peterson in his recent media encounter said, “I'm willing to give my life up for these belts. That's the mentality you have to have as a fighter, as a champion.”
While this fight is a career ‘make or break fight’ for Khan, it seems like it is a ‘life or death matter’ for Peterson. After he won the titles by defeating Khan in D.C., Peterson had said that he has spent his whole life and around 18 years in the gym to
get these titles. Even today, Peterson claims that his titles are everything for him and he can give up anything to defend them. With such enthusiasm from Peterson, it surely becomes tough for Khan to beat him. The only way Khan has is to knock out Peterson
to win the match.
Remember, this bout is important for Khan since he has to prove his mettle and his claims of the last fight being sully.
