Amir Khan acknowledges WBA for reinstating him as champion – Boxing News
Former IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan has been reinstated as the WBA light welterweight titlist, following Lamont Peterson’s positive drug test. The news was revealed earlier today by the World Boxing Association.
“I’m honoured to get my WBA title back and to go into the ring as champion,” said Khan who lost his title to Lamont Peterson last year in December.
“I’ve always wanted to fight for the WBC and Ring belts,” Khan added.
In relation to this, the fight between Khan and WBC light welterweight titlist Danny Garcia is now a title defence bout for both the pugilists. This will be the first ever title defence fight for Danny Garcia after he won the WBC title from legendary Mexican
fighter Erik Morales.
Even CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer, who revealed news of the WBA stripping off Lamont Peterson earlier last week, is excited for Khan.
“'I got confirmation today that the WBA have reinstated Amir Khan as their super champion and so he will go into the fight defending his title,” Schaefer stated.
He added that even the Ring magazine is putting its title on the line for Khan vs. Garcia. In this context, the bout will now have three titles on the line and the winner will be the unified champion of all three titles.
“'It's great news. And it's great news for both fighters as the winner of this fight will be recognised as the best 140-pounder in the world,” Schaefer added.
Amir Khan was already excited about fighting Danny Garcia and now things have become even more exciting. Both the fighters are young, energetic and aggressive. With three titles on the line, both of them will give in their best, which will heat up the arena
to the utmost.
Both the camps are now even more fired up to see their fighter win the show. Garcia expressed his excitement, saying this will be the biggest fight he has ever been in and his biggest payday to date. If Garcia beats Khan, he definitely will be the best in
the division. He currently is unbeaten and this is his chance to cement his legacy in the industry.
