Amir Khan admits the blunders he made against Danny Garcia – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan once again lost to an American but this time the Bolton proud had no excuses to make. Instead, Khan admits the blunders he made, among which the major one was fighting with his guard down.
“It wasn't my night. After watching the replays a little bit I thought I was coming in with my hands down and Danny took advantage,” admitted Khan who suffered a third round massive knockout by Garcia.
Talking about Garcia’s capability as a fighter, Khan admitted, “I respect Danny, he was countering very well against me.”
“We got a little complacent and he took advantage and he caught me.”
“I was a little surprised the referee stopped it. I thought he was going to let us continue. My mind was clear and I thought my legs were okay but I respect the referee, the judges and the commission, maybe they made the right call.”
Amir Khan promised fans he will knock Danny Garcia out in the third round but his luck did not seem to be with him. The Briton had a hard time walking in the ring after the hook by Garcia. Khan dominated the first two rounds perfectly, as his strategy was
sound to take on Garcia. However, Khan underestimated Garcia’s strength and that is where the unbeaten American got him.
Khan, who was planning to take on Floyd Mayweather after defeating Garcia, is now in no position to challenge the greats. Instead, he needs to work on his strategies and his resilience to make sure he is invincible. During the fight, the only quality Khan
exhibited was that of being speedy. He could not take punches and he could not hit well, factors that take every fighter down.
Khan’s promoter Richard Schaefer believes Khans still has it in him, while most analysts think the Bolton proud’s career is over. After this humiliating defeat, Khan might have to do reschedule his plans for the next, as he will not be getting Mayweather
or Timothy Bradley so soon.
Garcia is now the WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine’s light welterweight titlist.
