Amir Khan against banning Dereck Chisora – Boxing News
Amir Khan has shown discontent over banning Dereck Chisora from boxing for an indefinite time period. According to Khan, Dereck’s behaviour was unacceptable but banning him is not the solution. The British-Pakistani boxer said that it is better to impose
a heavy fine on Chisora so that he realizes his mistakes. He added that banning him is more like unleashing him to the streets where he will be more dangerous then what he is now.
Dereck Chisora received an indefinite time ban from the British Boxing Board of Control after a short hearing in Cardiff. The result of the hearing was a ban on Chisora and a fine. The board also recommended Chisora to take anger management treatment so
that he can learn to keep himself calm. Dereck had slapped Vitali Klitschko a day before their fight, then he spat water on Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir after the fight and was involved in a barehanded public brawl with David Haye.
Chisora’s camp has not yet accepted the decision and they are trying their level best to get the judgement reversed.
On Chisora’s suspension, Khan said, “He’s done a lot of bad things in boxing and made enemies, so he needs to be slapped with a heavy fine and realize how much it has cost him. But banning him would put him on the streets again and he would be a bigger threat
on the streets. It’s better to keep him in the gym and working.”
Changing his focus from Chisora to Lamont Peterson, the current IBF and WBO super lightweight champion and Khan’s opponent for May 19, Khan said he cannot wait to get his hands on Lamont to grab his titles back.
Expressing his anger and fury for Peterson, Khan said, “I have never felt like this before. This is a fight where I want to hurt him and knock him out.” He then compared his situation with what Dereck did, saying, “But I would never, ever disrespect an opponent
by throwing a punch at him outside the ring.”
