Amir Khan and Kell Brook heading for a clash – Boxing News
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan might go for a British blockbuster fight against Kell Brook next summer, as reported by promoter Eddie Hearn. In a recent interview, Hearn admitted that talks between the two camps have started and
the fight might happen next year.
Amir Khan and Kell Brook both are Briton fighters who have a history of rivalry. Khan has already said that he would only fight Brook if the latter grabs a world title. In an interview earlier this week, Khan came up saying that he would fight Kell Brook
if he sees it is worth going for.
For most analysts, Brook is targeting Khan just to be part of history, since Khan is undoubtedly one of the famous fighters in the world today.
“I first spoke to Asif Vali, Amir Khan's manager after the (Danny) Garcia fight, thinking about a potential Brook versus Khan fight in the winter or early next year,” said Hearn to Sky Sports.
“Those discussions continued after their recent appearances on Ringside. I think this fight is inevitable, it's too big to be ignored. It's what the fans want to see, it's what the public want to see and I believe both fighters want the fight,” he added.
“Amir Khan believes he can deal with Kell Brook and Kell Brook certainly believes he can deal with Amir Khan,” he said when asked if both fighters are a match for each other.
For now, Khan is scheduled to face unbeaten fighter Carlos Molina in December this year. Khan is coming off two consecutive losses at the hands of Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. Now, he is looking forward to make a statement against Molina by defeating
him.
Khan is working with Virgil Hunter, his new trainer. He fired Freddie Roach last month, blaming him for being unable to improve his defence. Khan’s loss to Danny Garcia was quite devastating and he put it all in Roach. According to Khan, he now needs to
work with a trainer who can improve his defence skills instead of working on his offence, which is already solid.
