Amir Khan announces finalisation of bout against Danny Garcia – Boxing News
British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has finally found an opponent to go head to head with after his bout cancelation against Lamont Peterson. Khan announced via his Twitter today that he will face Garcia on July 14 at Mandalay Bay Vegas. Khan, who was scheduled
to face Lamont Peterson at the same venue on May 19, did not seem as excited as he was against Peterson.
Khan’s twitter update read, “Jus want to say thankyou for all the support and may the best man win on july 14th. Khan Vs Garcia. Mandalay Bay Vegas.”
Even though Khan has announced finalisation of the fight against Garcia, there is still no word from Danny’s side. Garcia’s last week twitter message read, “If he (Khan) don't get his belts back we can't fight. A unification bout is the only fight that can
not let me fight my mandatory.”
Khan has currently appealed with the IBF to call his match with Peterson last year a ‘No Contest’ and to return his IBF and WBA welterweight titles. However, the IBF has demanded an explanation from Peterson. The commission had said that they will give Peterson
time to explain his positive drug test result before making a decision. Peterson grabbed the titles from Khan in December last year through a controversial decision. Khan’s points were deducted at the end of the match by the referee for pushing and pulling
his opponent.
When asked about his sentiments regarding Peterson’s drug test, Khan replied, “I’m still angry because I trained so hard for that fight in the Phillipines and LA then in the last week it was called off and all my training went down the drain.”
For now, Khan does not have much to do but to choose an opponent and fight. He is waiting for IBF’s final decision regarding Peterson before he could move on with his career. If he gets his titles back then Khan will be on the track again. If not, then probably
his match with Garcia will be cancelled as well, since Garcia has already demanded a title match. Therefore, it is important for Khan to ensure he regains his titles before moving on with his plans against Garcia.
