Amir Khan blames Freddie Roach for making him predictable – Boxing Special
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan has finally admitted the fact that he needs to work on his defence. However, as always, Khan made it a mark to put the entire blame on someone else, and this time it was his former coach Freddie Roach.
Khan is known for blaming others for his flaws. He has never accepted his defeat wholeheartedly. His last fight was against American unbeaten fighter Danny Garcia, which he lost via knockout. It was the second time the Brit lost via knockout to a fighter
lower than his calibre. While Khan was the favourite for the fight, his loss to Garcia shattered his fans’ trust over him. Now, the Briton is trying to make everyone believe that he indeed will make a strong comeback.
Last month, Khan fired his coach Freddie Roach, who was the man behind revamping Khan’s career after the Brit’s first round knockout defeat to Breidis Prescott three years back.
“I've got a great offence, but I've never had a trainer to work on my defence. I've always had a poor defence and I think Virgil Hunter can bring the best out of me, hopefully work on the mistakes I make,” said Khan.
“I've learned most of the things I have to from Freddie Roach, he is a great trainer and we are always going to be friends,” he added.
When asked about his relationship with Freddie, Khan added that the Hall of Famer trainer was not as focused with him, and he used to teach him the sage things he has been doing since day one. According to Khan, this is one of the major reasons why most
of his opponents could always predict his actions.
“I've learned most of the things I have to from Freddie Roach, he is a great trainer and we are always going to be friends.”
Previously, Khan has claimed that he was never Freddie Roach’s top priority, which is the main reason why he parted ways with the Hall of Fame trainer. According to Khan, Roach was always more focused on Manny Pacquiao, former WBO welterweight titlist. Now,
Khan is with Virgil Hunter, hoping to make his defence stronger than ever.
