Amir Khan claims 80 percent of American public wants to see Floyd Mayweather lose – Boxing news
The current unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, has claimed that 80 percent of the American public wants to see Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather lose in the ring and that is why they pay for
his fight.
The Bolton’s finest pugilist, Amir Khan, who is widely known as King Khan, is on a look out for setting up a super-fight with the undefeated American legend Floyd Mayweather. However, since Khan is not famous in the United States, many people including Mayweather
believe the fight will not sell many tickets.
Khan however, disagrees with it as he thinks whenever Mayweather fights a lot people flock to the arena. Khan, who has won 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, stated what Mayweather does in front of the
camera attracts a lot of people.
Mayweather has never been defeated in the past 15 years and he holds a perfect record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. Therefore, Khan reckons people now actually want to see him being defeated.
“80% of the American public who watch him fight are watching to see him get beat. They genuinely want to see him lose, but bottom line is, they are paying to see him fight, so I don’t think he cares either way,” Khan told Fighthype.com.
“For instance, look at Martinez. Well, nobody really knows who he is except hardcode boxing fans. He does not have or show his personality, so we 2aren’t gonna pay to watch him, especially if he fights someone nobody knows, whereas Mayweather could fight
anyone and you would pay to see it. It does not matter; it’s a Mayweather fight,” Khan added.
The 34-year-old Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, was formerly rated as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world before he was removed from the rankings due to inactivity.
Khan on the other hand is rated number one in the British pound-for-pound rankings. Therefore, a clash between these two will certainly be a sell-out.
