Amir Khan claims his fight with Floyd Mayweather will happen soon – Boxing news
The currently unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, has claimed his mega fight with the five-division world champion and the World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather,
will happen in the next nine or ten months.
The 24-year-old Bolton’s finest, who is widely known as King Khan, is set to fight Lamont Peterson on December 10, 2011 before he moves up to 147lbs division where the likes of Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather operate.
The undefeated American legend, Mayweather, who holds an incredible record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, wants Khan to fight Jessie Vergas first in order to fight him.
Therefore, Khan reckons there is not much time left when he will get a chance to break Mayweather’s unbeaten record.
“My next fight will be on the 10th of December against Lamont Peterson, an American fighter, and then I'll move to 147 after that fight. I know I'm two or three fights away from fighting Mayweather - and that within the next nine months I will fight Floyd
Mayweather,” Khan told BBC Sport.
Mayweather knocked out Vicious Victor Ortiz in the fourth round recently but Khan believes he has the tools to beat the Pretty Boy.
“I can see a lot of things in my armoury that would beat Floyd - he will take a lot of shots and he will get beat,” said Khan.
In the end, Khan revealed his bout with Mayweather will take place in America as England is pretty small as compared to the States.
“Because of the money involved it could never be here [UK]. There's too much money in America. America is 50 times bigger than England,” revealed Khan.
Mayweather was formerly rated as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world before he was removed from the rankings due to inactivity.
Khan on the same note is rated as the number one pound-for-pound boxer by Sporting Life. Therefore, the Khan-Mayweather bout will certainly be an explosive one. Let’s see when it takes place.
