Amir Khan claims his final punch to Zab Judah was right above the belt – Boxing news
The Bolton’s finest, Amir Khan, knocked out the IBF light welterweight champion, Zab Judah, in the fifth round unification bout for the IBF and WBA world light welterweight titles on Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
The 24-year-old, who is widely known as King Khan, landed a dazzling punch from his right hand on Judah’s body which forced the 33-year-old American pugilist to crash down to the canvas.
Judah stayed on his knees until he was counted out by the referee at 2:47 of the fifth round. Judah acted as if he was surprised upon being counted out, as he claimed the punch Khan gave him was below his belt.
However Khan, who has now won 26 of his 27 fights including 18 by the way of a knockout, afterwards told the media it was a totally legal punch and was not below the belt.
While speaking on this, he said, “It was right above the belt – it was not below it. That was a great shot.”
It was an enthralling display from the Brit as he dominated the fight from the very first round. In the first four rounds, he was leading Judah on all three scorecards.
Khan showed respect for Judah by saying he is a great fighter and he likes him a lot but on the same note the new unified IBF and WBA World Super Light Welterweight champion, Khan, said he was a step ahead in the fight and he knew it.
Khan claimed he knew his shots were hurting Judah and his speed was making him frustrated.
Khan said, “Zab's a great fighter and you might not believe this but I'm a big fan of his. I was just one step ahead of him. All my shots were hitting him and in the later rounds I could see he was getting frustrated and that's when I really put the pressure
on.”
Khan’s promoter Richard Schaefer revealed Khan is again going to fight in December 2011 at the same weight and then will move up to the 147 pounds category to look for some big names in the boxing world.
Let’s hope Khan gets another big fight, as he can certainly put British boxing back on the map.
