Amir Khan confirms he has been approached by Ricky Hatton’s brother Matthew – Boxing news
Amir Khan, who is currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, has revealed his first fight at the welterweight division could be with Ricky ‘the Hitman’ Hatton’s brother, Matthew Hatton.
The Bolton’s finest claimed he has been approached by Hatton’s camp.
Khan, who is more commonly known as King Khan, is set to face Lamont ‘Havoc’ Peterson on December 10, 2011 at Walter E. Washington Convention Center, in Washington D.C. This will be Khan’s last fight at 140 pounds as he is planning to move up to the 147
pounds division in search of some big fights.
Khan, who carries a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is keen to set up a super-fight with the undefeated American legend, Floyd Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion and
the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion. Therefore, Khan stated he will fight Matthew, as he thinks it will help him in getting ready for Mayweather.
“I want to step up to welterweight after I fight Peterson and there's been a lot of talk about who I might fight first at welterweight,” the 24-year-old Khan told the Daily Mirror. “That fight could be against Ricky Hatton's brother Matthew. They've
approached us and said they would be happy to take that fight if I move up to 147lbs.”
Khan added, “I want a fight like that at 147 before I have the big fights just so I can get a feel for it, so my body can get a feel for it.”
The 30-year-old Matthew ‘Magic’ Hatton has a record of winning 42 of his 49 professional fights (2 Draws),with 16 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. He is also ranked number 11
in the world in the welterweight division. Therefore, a clash with him will certainly be huge one.
However, all eyes are on Khan’s upcoming fight with Peterson. Let’s see if Khan manages to defeat him on the fight night.
