Amir Khan crowned as the British Boxer of the Year 2011 – Boxing news
Amir Khan, who is currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, has been awarded with the British Boxer of the Year award due to his outstanding performance in 2011.
The 24-year-old Bolton’s finest, who is more commonly known as King Khan, insisted he is very proud on being nominated as the best for the year and this has given him extra motivation.
“I’m very proud to have won the British Boxer of the Year Award,” a delighted Khan beamed. “It means a lot to me to be recognised with this award and gives me the motivation to strive for even more success in my career.”
Khan, who carries a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, including 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, secured a win over southpaw Paul McCloskey via technical decision before stopping the American high-profile Zab ‘Super’ Judah
in the fifth round and Khan reckons nothing could have been possible without his trainer Freddie Roach. Khan was also thankful to the British Boxing Board of Control for giving him the award.
“Freddie Roach, my trainer, has been a key figure in helping me become a unified world champion and I’m sure that the next 12 months will get even better for me,” he added. “Thank you to the British Boxing Board of Control for this and I hope to continue
to make British boxing proud.”
Khan, who is ranked as the best in British pound-for-pound list, is currently set to defend his titles against the Columbian pugilist, Lamont Peterson, on December 12, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C.
This will be Khan’s concluding fight at 140 pounds division because he will then move up to 147 pounds division, where the likes of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather operate. So, let’s hope Khan
gets past Peterson test and sets up a big fight at 147 pounds, as it will certainly take him to an even higher peak.
