Amir Khan expects Mayweather to exhaust Miguel Cotto on May 5 – Boxing News
Former unified IBF and WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan expects Floyd Mayweather Jr. to outclass Miguel Cotto on May 5. According to Khan, even though Cotto is slick, Mayweather’s speed will be a challenge for him to handle.
Floyd Mayweather is the current WBC welterweight champion and is an unbeaten American fighter. Even though Floyd Mayweather is the favourite for the bout, he is inexperienced at the weight, which can be a major drawback.
Khan, through his twitter account, said, “I reckon Mayweather wins against Cotto, but will be a skilful match. Mayweather's speed will be an upside, but I like how tight and composed Cotto is.”
It should be noted here that this would Mayweather’s second ever match at this weight. Previously, he fought Oscar de la Hoya in 2007 at the weight. Back then, Mayweather won the match but most analysts were of the view that since Oscar was nearly at the
verge of retirement, he was not as good as he was at his career’s start.
Khan, who will be fighting Lamont Peterson in their rematch on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, wants to take on Floyd Mayweather next. Khan surely seems excited to watch Mayweather taking on Cotto and so is probably the whole boxing fraternity.
Mayweather is currently the most popular boxer around the globe, especially in America, therefore this match is definitely one of the biggest of 2012.
The next two major events would be Khan vs. Peterson and Pacquiao vs. Bradley. In their last face-off session, Mayweather seemed quite confident over the fact that he can take Cotto down. On the other hand, Cotto said that he has been preparing hard for
the match and he is sure he will win. In his last media workout session, Cotto said that everyone has a first time and this will be Mayweather’s first defeat. He said that Mayweather cannot see it coming but it is there. According to Cotto, his trainer Pedro
Diaz has quite a lot of tactics to counter Mayweather and he is learning all of them to succeed on the big day.
