Amir Khan exposes third person's interference in bout
Amir Khan, the British boxer, has revealed a third person’s interference in his controversial split decision loss against the American Lemont Peterson.
In a fresh revelation of evidence, Khan showed a string of pictures in a Twitter post, which according to him, indicate the presence of a man interfering with the WBA (World Boxing Association) supervisor.
Khan said that “unidentified” man was stealthily involved in manipulating the match result.
He referred to the man’s behaviour as strictly against the rules asking, “Who is this guy? And what was he doing?"
Khan has already filed an appeal against the scoring of the fight.
In the picture, the accused man is seen as wearing a hat and sitting alongside the WBA supervisor, Michael Welsh, during the fight. The man also seemed to pick up the scorecard twice.
"I've been given an update by the IBF and WBA. They both want the appeal in New York on 18 and 19 January. They will make their decision on whether the outcome should be overturned, should stand or if there needs to be a rematch. There is clear outrage against
the officiating and something needs to be done."
Right after the fight, Khan contended that the score was manipulated, before the announcement.
International Boxing Federation's (IBF) president, Daryl Peoples, had confirmed while talking to the media that Khan’s camp has also asked the WBA and IBF to overturn the referee, Joseph Cooper's, decision to deduct points.
Khan has requested the WBA and IBF to give the rematch an official status as well.
Lemont Peterson had already accepted the rematch offer in the post match press conference.
It was Khan’s second professional loss throughout his career that virtually jeopardised his progress through the welterweight after the much-anticipated fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr, the current invincible WBC champion.
Amir Khan is the most popular boxer in Britain, having a respectable boxing record.
He has participated in a total of 28 fights, out of which he has won 26 times. His knock-out record is very prolific too, with 18 victories and only two losses.
The fate of Khan-Peterson controversial fight will be decided in a couple of months.
