Amir Khan eyeing a rematch with Paul McCloskey – Boxing news
The current unified International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association World Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, has said that he is ready to offer Paul McCloskey a rematch later in 2011.
The 32-year-old pugilist from Northern Ireland, Paul McCloskey, who lost to Khan back in April 2011 via technical knockout, was desperate for a rematch against Khan. He wanted to avenge his defeat and now he has boosted his chances of getting a rematch with
his impressive unanimous points’ decision victory over Breidis Prescott last Saturday, September 10, 2011.
It was a strong performance from the Dudey, McCloskey, as he showed great stamina and will to beat his dangerous Colombian opponent, who is the only man as of yet to knockout Amir Khan.
Therefore Khan, who is widely known as King Khan, is very impressed with McCloskey performance. Khan, who is currently expected to face Lamont Peterson, the mandatory challenger of his IBF title, reckons a rematch with McCloskey can be a big fight.
“Great win for Paul McCloskey - he stuck in there all the way and turned it around. He deserved the win, well done, my prediction was right,” Khan tweeted. “McCloskey got great support, let's hope he goes all the way and wins a world title, a rematch will
be huge, he really impressed me tonight.”
The 28-year-old, Prescott, who now holds a record of winning 24 of his 27 professional fights, in which 19 of his wins came by the way of a knockout, said, “He would miss me completely or hit my gloves and the crowd would roar and the people at ringside
would jump to their feet in ecstasy, screaming and yelling right behind the judges. I did more than enough to win this fight anywhere but here in Ireland.”
Amir Khan stated his fight with Lamont Peterson will be his last fight at 140 lbs division. However let’s see if he changes his mind and offers a rematch to McCloskey, as it will certainly be a huge fight.
