Amir Khan feels dejected with Peterson news – Boxing News
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan is out of words upon hearing the news of Lamont Peterson retaining the IBF title. Khan, who appealed to the IBF to strip Peterson off the title, finds it disturbing to learn that the commission has
planned otherwise.
“I read somewhere, IBF give Peterson the title and heard he is fighting judda next. Wow, so it must be ok to take drugs in boxing + still box,” said Khan through his Twitter account.
Another tweet from the British-Pakistani boxer read, “Peterson was caught juiced up so WBA reinstated the title back. IBF I heard have Peterson still champ and NO ban. What’s point of drug tests.”
Peterson won the WBA and IBF light welterweight titles from Khan in December last year. The decision was considered controversial by most fans and boxing analysts and so a rematch was planned from both the camps.
Lamont Peterson was tested positive for having illegal substance in his body in April this year. The news emerged just twenty days prior to Peterson’s rematch with Khan. The rematch was immediately cancelled, leaving Khan with no choice but to fight WBC
titlist Danny Garcia. Khan met Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the Brit lost his WBA light welterweight title to the unbeaten American via fourth round knockout.
Now, Khan believes the IBF made a mistake by letting Peterson retain the title, as he believes nobody should be allowed to use drugs in the game for whatever reason they might be.
“I’m not bitter 1 bit about wot the IBF have done, its jus unfair in sport. Getting caught taking drugs. Lol he can keep the title and the W,” read Khan’s yet another frustrated Tweet.
For now, Khan is planning on fighting in December. The Bolton proud wanted to go for a rematch against Danny Garcia but the American titlist declined his offer. Garcia will be facing Mexican legend Erik Morales in a rematch soon and so Khan is out of options.
He might settle for a non-title bout for December, as rumours suggest.
