Amir Khan has to wait for IBF’s final decision – Boxing News
British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has to wait for the IBF’s final decision. There are chances of Khan being reinstated as the champion but nothing is sure for now. The IBF has told Khan’s camp to wait until they talk to Lamont Peterson regarding the whole
issue. The IBF told Khan that they would discuss the matter with Peterson before taking a decision.
Earlier this week, after the issue was revealed, Khan appealed with the IBF that Lamont Peterson is a cheat and that he should get his titles back and their December fight should be considered a ‘No-Contest’.
Khan said, “The Nevada Commission have taken the licence off Lamont Peterson and they don't want him to fight in the next fight. So I think whoever I fight next they'll put the titles on the line or we still go through the process and we might get the titles
back and the fight that we had last time will be a no-contest."
The IBF told Khan’s camp, “We are still waiting to receive all the information from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, as well as to speak with Lamont Peterson.”
Khan also said that the news of Peterson’s positive test hit him in the head, as he was preparing hard for the rematch. He said that he wanted to go in the ring and put up his best performance to show the world how good he is but now that will not happen.
Khan said that his next fight might be in June or July but he has to decide that with Golden Boy Promotions as their meeting regarding the issue is set for this week.
On the other side, Peterson’s advocate said that his client has been honest to the commission and he told everything that was there instead of hiding it up or making excuses. According to Team Peterson, they will stand with Peterson for his work ethics.
A recent public letter from Team Peterson claimed that Peterson is a true ‘Champion’ and that he would never do such a thing on purpose, instead he was willing to get in the ring against Khan.
