Amir Khan indicates leaving Roach – Boxing News
After his brutal knockout loss to unbeaten American fighter Danny Garcia, Amir Khan has time and again spoke about parting ways with Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach. Now, the Briton has finally made end notes, saying he is looking for other trainers
to replace Roach.
“I'm not even at my peak yet,” said Khan. “I want to make a few changes and am in talks to change trainers at the moment. I am looking at a few names but I don't know if they are available.”
Khan is a British-Pakistani boxer who has enjoyed stardom for long. However, following his recent loss to Danny ‘Garcia’ Swift, Khan’s career is in jeopardy. He currently stands with 26 wins, 3 losses and 18 knockouts in his portfolio.
Garcia was the second man ever to knockout Khan. Khan’s first knockout loss came at the hands of Breidis Prescott, when the Briton was knocked out right in the first round. Back then, Khan changed his trainer, choosing Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach.
The former WBA champion was impressed with Roach’s performance as Pacquiao’s trainer.
Unfortunately, it seems like Khan has no more faith left in Roach. Following his loss to Garcia, Khan notified the press that he would either change his coach completely or add a defence coach to his arsenal. Khan suffered a huge left hook by Garcia just
when he had his guard down. Realising the fact that he needs to improve his defence, Khan now wants a trainer who do it for him.
When Roach was approached following Khan’s recent statement, he revealed, “I have not heard anything official from them.”
He added, “I heard they want to fight in December. No one has told me if I'm in or out."
For now, it’s not sure whether Khan will leave Roach or not. Khan might try changing his trainer to put the blame on Roach, but that will not change the fact that he has a weak chin, as Angel Garcia, father of Danny Garcia puts it. Maybe adding an additional
defence trainer to his arsenal would work out, but completely dropping Roach out might be a blunder.
