Amir Khan insists on a rematch against Danny Garcia – Boxing News
British Pakistani fighter Amir Khan insists on a rematch against Danny Garcia. According to Khan, the unbeaten American will succumb to the offer if he is a true warrior.
“They may not want it if they realise they got lucky. But the return bout with me is by far the biggest money fight for them at light-welterweight,” said Khan in a recent interview.
Khan is currently in a position where he can lose it all, if he is unable to make a point in his next fight. After his loss to Peterson, the world saw the former WBA light welterweight titlist whine about the referee’s decision of deducting points and the
appearance of a mysterious man, and later about Peterson taking drugs. However, this time Khan has run out of options and the only one to blame is himself.
The Bolton proud is reconsidering his options to save his fading career. He wants to ensure he is Freddie Roach’s first priority, despite having Manny Pacquiao in the camp.
“I really enjoy my time living and working with Freddie in Los Angeles but I don’t know what the effect is on me of all the other travelling to be with him and Manny. Maybe from this point I should spend more time back in England, in my comfort zone,” said
Khan.
Khan has several options right now but he wants to take on Garcia once again to prove his mettle. He can move up in weight and fight long time foe Paulie Malignaggi. However, the Briton wants to keep it personal this time with Garcia.
“I would prefer to fight Garcia again to prove that I’m the top man at 140 lbs. I’m still only 25 so there’s no rush to move up and I will only do so if its right for me,” said Khan.
It should be noted here that Garcia’s camp, especially his father Angel Garcia, has already ruled out the possibility of a rematch. In the post fight press conference, Angel Garcia called Amir Khan an ‘old pair of shoes’ and a ‘three time ex champion’, saying
his son has proved it all and he does not have to do it again.
