Amir Khan is in for winning this time – Boxing News
Bolton fighter Amir Khan has finally realised the mistake he was making every time he stepped in the ring with a fierce opponent. To Khan, the mistake was trying to create exciting fights for the fans. While Khan believes he is for a sure win, Carlos Molina
thinks otherwise.
Khan will be facing unbeaten American fighter Carlos Molina today in Los Angeles. It will Khan’s last chance to revive his career, following his knockout loss to unbeaten fighter Danny Garcia. For Khan, this fight will decide his fate.
“I've stuck my head in there too often trying to make more exciting fights for the crowd, but trying to please the crowd too much can be a bad thing. Maybe I've watched too many 'Rocky' movies,” said Khan while talking about his knockout losses.
Khan will be entering the ring with two consecutive losses in his bag. He lost his unified WBA and IBF light welterweight titles to Lamont Peterson last year in December. Khan went onto face American unbeaten fighter and now a unified titlist Danny Garcia.
The Briton suffered a fourth round knockout defeat at the hands of Garcia.
In the aftermath of his loss, Khan decided to switch his trainers, believing his former trainer Freddie Roach was unable to give him enough attention. Khan is now working with American trainer Virgil Hunter, in hopes of improving his defence and making his
fighting style smarter.
“To me, it's not about the quality of his chin. He can take a punch. It's his decisions after that where he can avoid trouble,” said Khan while talking about Khan’s strengths and weaknesses.
For now, Khan knows that he needs to score an impressive win against Molina to rise again. Although Molina is not a fighter of his calibre, still a dominating victory can give Khan’s career a boost. Maybe after Molina, Khan can challenge some of the big
fighters in the division.
As Hunter puts it, Khan needs to stay away from hard punchers for the moment, until he completely revives his career. If so, then probably Molina is the perfect opponent for Khan.
